THIS WEEK WITH IZZY

ilnam-076

The ILNAM GIG  looked like playing to an empty vineyard but the crowds arrived and remained due to more than 1 ” of rain falling in 10 minutes. The downpour created a bond which had an ‘any shelter in a storm’ effect on all present. Two wee lads danced, sang and clapped for 3 hours or so. Bit hard to hear over the sub-tropical waterfalling and the rising noise of the Creek but it was Grand afternoon. Izzy and Chick met one of the entrapped guests later in the week at the BIRDWING CAFE in TUMBULGUM. As the Guest approached Chick had an uneasy moment. However, the Guest just wanted to say what a WONDERFUL time she and her man had had and that they would be back next month. They hadn’t expected music and were delighted with the afternoon.

Its moments like that which make this musical experience a sweet thing. esp for Chick who is new to the Music World and can be daunted at times by the various tensions which she encounters between venues, musos and “punters” as they call them. She thought they were all toe-tapping bar one small table at the front and indeed they were all toe-tapping and head nodding. Chick knows the signs now just as she knows when an Audience is LOST or DISPLEASED.Even one of the tricky customers who arrived in midst of the RAIN took only 2 songs and one half to be tapping the toes and then smiling. Ilnams were up at the cars with Brollies as people arrived. their usual courteous and thoughtful service and it goes down well. Doesn’t happen at all the places we go to. Izzy has his performance coaching tips and Chick could give a few venue-running tips and might do so. She has learned a lot from where she sits out there amongst “IT”.

READ YOUR CUSTOMERS – she would say. And – THE LOUDEST VOICE IS NOT NECESSARILY THE OPINION OF THE MAJORITY.

Scrubby and Izzy continue their Merriment and Marvel and have a run of bookings ahead of them.

This week has seen a boyhood friend of Izzy’s on the phone several times. Boyish laughter echoing over the phonelines as the longterm friends talk over the past. Friend is a renowned BP ( Bass Player) and they go way back to High School Days in Sydney’s West. Friend is writing his life story and it seems to begin someplace back there in the Western Suburbs and involves a pair of thongs.

Lots of Zarsoff comments have begun coming into the  ZARSOFF FACEBOOK GROUP. Izzy reckons they’re all musos from the HUNTER VALLEY. They all seem to want ZARSOFF names too.

We heard good raps for 2 young bands as well. HIGH NOON HEAT and FAT ALBERT with Matt Buggy. Local bands and they have managed to impress the older musos. That’s not easily done.

Yesterbeats rehearsals are off at the moment due to JOHNNY CARR’S shoulder being injured.

Izzy is itching to learn some new songs and to consolidate all of the songs he already knows into the one place.

He’s in touch with Lynnette Komidar down in Grafton who has the wonderful roaming Blog about KINGS CROSS and TAYLOR SQUARE and the 1960s.  MUSICAL NOTES.

Next gig is LUFFLEY again next Friday March 6 and then up to TALLY VALLEY on Saturday 7th for a music fest for Will.

IZZY FOREAL AND VARIOUS GUESTS – CAFÉ VIBES

IZZY FOREAL AND VARIOUS GUESTS – CAFÉ VIBES

Izzy Foreal performs his semi-acoustic ‘21st-Century Skiffle’ music every Saturday night at Jamieson’s Restaurant in West Tweed, ably assisted by assorted guest musicians and cohorts. Izzy has an impressive musical pedigree, but it perhaps most infamous as the bass player and vocalist with Sydney comedy-rock band The Zarsoff Brothers.

On Mothers Day at the Ilnam Estate Winery Izzy will be joined by Dave (‘The Bloke’) Ovenden, mandolinist and frontman for contemporary Australiana exponents Bullamakanka. ‘The Bloke’ and Izzy also play together in semi-acoustic outfit Paspalum as well as The Bob Dylan Song Book Band, which appears the first Sunday of each month at the Bilambil Sports Club. Izzy was also bass player with Bullamakanka in the early 1980s, and he and ‘The Bloke’ played together in the seminal 70s comedy-rock band The 69ers.

On Mothers Day at Ilnam Izzy and ‘The Bloke’ will feature Paspalum’s percussionist Chris ‘The Boss’ Fieldo, with a possible guest appearance by Pete Lawson (also from Paspalum and Bullamakanka).
