IZZY BEGINS SOME SERIOUS NORTH COAST TOURING

At age 60, Izzy is on the Road. This weekend he played LUFFLEY at Murbah, stayed with his mate, Scrubby, out in the hills and rehearsed with LILY WHITE from BEECHMONT. Then the HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITS headed into LENNOX HEAD to play at the Pub. 9pm.- midnight. Izzy hopped on his trike and headed home to the Clarence down the Pacific Highway.

He stopped in for some nourishment at WOODBURN, the allnight cafe town, and met up with the security crew from LENNOX POINT, then found himself in the Winter Mists along the River Flats. Ah! The life of the Wandering Minstrel ! 3.am. homecoming and then the first knock at the door of FOREALTY TOWERS.  A Sunday Morning Visit from the DOCS DISASTER RECOVERY TEAM.

Well, said Iz , Bertha the Fridge was lost in the muddy waters. A few forms filled in and photos taken by the extremely delightful Disaster Recovery Girls and Izzy just might be refrigerating his food once more.

IZZY ON THE CLARENCE

Foreal Enterprises have now relocated to the Clarence River NSW. The relocation did manage to coincide with the Major Flood of 2009 which threatened their new premises and led to isolation by dark and muddy waters for a week. Izzy was unable to peform at the Greenmount Gig in Coolangatta with Scrubby ( BLIND WILLIE WAGTAIL) and missed two LUFFLEY Gigs despite a valiant effort to reach the 2nd one via the SUMMERLAND WAY. ________________ The gig he has been able to cross flooded waters and reach is the MUSIC CAFE at the EMPORIUM in SOUTH GRAFTON. Not a bad way to be welcomed to a new community. No cash involved but Iz says he’s being paid in cosmic tender. Music Cafe charges $3 entry and that $3 goes to one local charity each month. Izzy also says that its a good way to absorb the Grafton Musical Culture and begin to see where he might fit. Music Cafe covers an age range from schoolkids to elders and a wide  musical spectrum including harpists, rockers, rhythm and blues, banjo, novices, loonies, folk and one powerful rendition of Hallelujah by a young woman with an enviable voice and persona. Had an email today from the CLARENCE. Izzy is planning to head down next week for the First of the MUSIC CAFES. 

Hi everyone,

Due to popular demand the SOUTH GRAFTON MUSIC CAFE is
back.

Look out for the last Thursday of each month starting 6.30pm.

Local muscians, dancers, singers and poets, in fact anyone that’s entertaining, is invited to perform at our relaxed and friendly South Grafton Emporium.

An entry fee of $3.00 (children under 18 free) includes a lucky door prize donated by the
Emporium.

Not for profit organisations and groups are invited to raise money, help on the door and run a raffle or 2. The door takings will be donated to the charity or group of the night.

There’ll be the usual fantastic food from Peter’s Emporium Cafe plus the Music Cafe Night’s Special such as a curry night at no more than $10.00. B.Y.O.  bring your own glasses (a surcharge if Emporium glasses are used)

BANGALOW AND LENNOX HEAD

Izzy played with the Banditz this weekend Bangalow Pub on Friday Night and Lennox Point Saturday. Lennox was packed as per usual. Davey Rankin put in a guest appearance on trombone and assorted other oddities.

IZZY has picked up his WASHBURN Bass for the last few gigs.  Iz played the Washburn at Bangalow Friday Night in the last set and needs a new strap if he’s going to keep playing because of the weight of the Washburn. This weekend his little KAY was his main instrument. If WASHBURN doesn’t go to a good home before the next gigs, look for the new strap. 

Izzy also met up with LYNNETTE KOMIDAR who is webmaster of the MUSICAL NOTES Blog – Lynne writes about GROWING UP IN KINGS CROSS and covers the Music Scene of the 1960s at TAYLOR SQUARE and the CROSS.

Took a Sunday Afternoon drive today and on the way back to Bilambil from Bangalow, heard the throb of a stompbox. Iz followed the musical instinct and there was SLIM PICKENS playing to swimmers and tennis players. Iz and the Chick added one more coke and a lemon squash to their day’s drinking and sat down to catch the last 3 songs.  Izzy is enjoying being out and about and hearing Musos he hasn’t had a chance to hear before. Slim posed with Izzy in front of the misleading sign and presented us with the new CD NEXT TIME with Slim and Dr Baz. Great stuff with some fine backing musos and several original tracks. Slim was off to BRUNSWICK PUB for a night gig there with Dr Baz. Thanks Slim. Really enjoyed the mini-afternoon and am listening to the NEXT TIME right now.

Also attended the NEWLING PUBLIC SCHOOL end of the year concert held in the OLD ARMIDALE TECHERS’ COLLEGE. The night was a ripper with audience applause at max. Scripted by one of the teachers. NOVEMBER APPROACHES

November approaches. November 1 sees  THE HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITZ down at DUNOON SPORTS CLUB not far out of Lismore. This should be a JOLLEY good time. Not quite sure what’s happening there but have already heard some familiar names lined up to play.

November 9 and Izzy is down at CLARENCE VALLEY CONSERVATORIUM and then off on a SOUTHERN TOUR incorporating BELLINGEN, the WARM SUNSHINE gig and up to the NEW ENGLAND.

Looks Luffley Friday Nights as booked and HILLBILLIES are down LENNOX, BYRON AND BRUNSWICK. Details as they come to hand.

OCTOBER IT IZ

Having done JAZZ at LUFFLEY and Wine at ILNAM  to wrap up September, Izzy is  moving into October 2008.   Its PJ’s birthday. Celebrating his 60th one year late. PJ is drummer with HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITZ and a real nice fella.  That means lots of musos out in the bush.

Iz does another JAZZ muso at LUFFLEY Oct  3. Sunday Oct 5 sees Iz putting on his straight man persona as PETER KNOX and could be attending the BAL launch in Brisbane – Perhaps.

There is one special wedding in there and on the 10 OCTOBER – Iz MAY be playing at OLD CIVIC HOTEL in AUSTRALIA FAIR  playing for GLENN O’LOUGHLIN’s farewell. Glenn is an old ZARSOFF fan has requested this one with old ZARSOFF songs. Iz has called in the SCRUB for this one. 11th Oct and the Banditz are at LENNOX POINT HOTEL again.

24-26 and Iz has secret business at Coolangatta.  On the 25th. Scrubby has asked him to a party to play – another secret performance.

Fridays as usual at LUFFLEY – unless Kel is away having his eye operation in which case it will be Scrub and Iz at LUFFLEY – not at all normal.

Weekdays sees rehearsals with YESTERBEATS on the Porch or up at Glengarry. Thats IZZY, JOHNNY CARR and MIKE FISHER. Drummer listed last as per norm and hidden in fotos as well. Sorry Mike !

WRAPPING SEPTEMBER UP

BEEN a busy Springtime . Izzy took a week’s break to travel South. Sunday 21st September he conducted a workshop at the CLARENCE VALLEY CONSERVATORIUM in GRAFTON and then headed down to Bellingen and up to Armidale. The Galloway Gig fell through due to the  fear that he might use the word ‘PISS’ and embarrass us all.

IZZY IS GOING SOUTH

Tonight Izzy is at LUFFLEY CAFE in MUWILLUMBAH with Kel and Scrubby. Its SPEED ON TWEED so it could be a wild night. Then thats it at this end for a week . Iz is heading south as his alter ego PETER KNOX to host a DRAMA WORKSHOP at the CLARENCE VALLEY CONSERVATORIUM in GRAFTON. Then on to BELLINGEN where he may be at the LIVE MIKE NIGHT at the FEEDERAL HOTEL in BELLINGEN and up to ARMIDALE and a guest appearance at the GALLOWAY. Then back to base for LUFFLEY FASHION PARADE FRIDAY 26 SEPTEMBER.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON and we are in the COTTAGE. THEY are rehearsing for GABI BLISS on SATURDAY.

 

THAT’S the poster. Been out sticking them up all over the place. Down at Panorama Plaza in the place of Rejection – Chick stuck ‘em up and in bus shelters and on backs of loo doors because this weekend is the launch of REFLEXIONS. GABI BLISS is on the loose. Out on the FRONT PORCH with Evan on Lead, Izzy on bass and kazoo and Mike Fisher on drums. The Cottage sits on top of the Hill with the BILAMBIL VALLEY down there – amphitheatre like. Up here the new PA is set up. The DOS is out at lunch for the day. The Electric guitars are plugged in. Mike Fisher is here with his drums and the Final Rehearsal is on.

YESTERBEATS

• Izzy has begun rehearsals for a 60s music band tentatively titled the YESTERBEATS. More details as the rehearsals progress.

 

• Izzy will also be performing with GABI BLISS at her CD launch SATURDAY AUGUST 30 2008 AT BUDDHA BELLY UKI NSW. The event is called REFLEXIONS. Details to come.

 

• IZZY is also gathering band members for the band version of IZZY FOREAL AND ASSOCIATES.  KIKI ZARSOFF SO THEY SAY.

 

LISMORE AND THE RICHMOND HOTEL

Set off early this morning for LISMORE. Figured that if we were able to truly enjoy and grow to love GRAFTON then Lismore would be no problem at all. We had also done Surfers Paradise this week and found endearing qualities in that . It wasn’t looking too good for a bit with Izzy sickening with a head cold. Chick went off to the RED DOVE and Iz wandered the streets. Sure enough things started to look GOOD. Lismore is looking GOOD. Much like Grafton and Armidale. These inland towns are getting their acts together. VERY CLASSY indeed. Tweed and Gold Coast could learn a lesson or two – or more. Tasteful renovations , retro bars and excellent food and coffee. And the RICHMOND HOTEL – under Kyle’s gentle hand – scores top marks with Iz and Chick. Great Staff, Great sound – top food and a LOT OF FUN. The Bandits had them dancing inside and break dancing on the street.

 

Scrubby , Pete Jaggle and the Iz – theyr’e still out there playing till midnight. A Lismore audience which is a motley experience but dedicated. The Richmond features deep leather lounges and ARTEFACTS of bygone times. Take a look sometime. Ask for THE HILLBILLY BLUES BANDITS. Not bad at all !!!!

IZZY FOREAL GOES TO LISMORE

Been an interesting week. Great area for interesting weeks. Then again Izzy has a great Personality for making a week interesting as well. 

Friday is now LIVE MUSIC at BILAMBIL SPORTS CLUB. AKA the Bilambil Blues Club relocated to FRIDAY NIGHTS.  Last Friday was Izzy’s OFF WEEK . We were planning  to do dinner at the Club followed by coffee at Jamiesons restaurant to listen to some JOHNNY CARR. However it was another of the 2008 STORMY NIGHTS -  without warning – lightning , hail and thunder – so we settled for the Bilambil Club due to its being a mere 1/2 kilometre down the Hill from the Cottage. Jeff Boyd was up for Johnny C. BOYDIE AND THE FISHERMEN.

  They sounded good ! Well done Boydie ! Izzy and Chick had planned to stay on but were aged and weary so they were back in The Cottage pretty early.

Saturday night – IZZY AT JAMIESONS – with SCRUBBY – is proving to be one good combination.  This week the weather was kind and the crowd came rolling in – word is out – IZZY IS BACK. Jamieson’s is IZZY’S CAFE VIBE night and one of his FAVOURITES. Time to chat. Time to spend with the audience. Combining music and community, the CAFE VIBE nights send people home convinced they’ve had a good night  – even if a little unsure about what happened.

Jamieson’s is boasting its new menu too . Michael the Chef has gone north to Burrum Heads leaving us with Ben and Justin which is a pretty good setup.  The gas cylinders were full and the sticky toffee pudding was  hot.  Scrubby was happier this week with the night a little warmer.

Sunday saw us off to SURFERS PARADISE to the Azzurro to listen to PHIL EIZENBERG.  Izzy and Chick found a Govindas tucked in to Surfers Centro and Izzy came across a WESTCO Jeans shop so things were looking good even before we reached Azzurro down on Ocean Parade.

IZZY FOREAL TAKES A TRIP AND THEN DOES WINTERSUN

 

Izzy took off to the South for 10 days without musical instrument of any kind. Stopped in at Kalang with Kati B and IMM and then went up into the Mountains and cold country of Armidale to Mad O”Brian and family.  On the way back he did The CLARENCE and spent time hunting up lonely bush graves on RUSHFORTH ROAD just out of Grafton.

10 days offline and straight into rehearsals with SCRUBBY PETER HURCOMBE and the HILLBILLY BUES BANDITS for WINTERSUN 2008. They did 4 hours in the sun on Friday and a hot hour on the Sunday. Take a look at these shots.

 

This is the first time ever Izzy has ever in his  life been paid to play RHYTHM GUITAR. Scrubby on lead and vocals, Jamie on drums, Mick Dick on double bass and vocals and Iz on the Rhythm and vocals. A great weekend with a Jamiesons return on the SATURDAY NIGHT with Dave Ovenden
